Wheelchair to the Danube Channel

Without using the steep roads or stairways you can go down to the Danube Channel in Vienna since a few years with an elevator.

Elevator to the Danube Channel in the 2nd District

Next to the main building of the »Raiffeisen Bank« in the second discrict of Vienna there is an elevator. This elevator brings you down to the Danube Channel. While bikers or people with a baby carriage can also take the steep roads, this is very hard to do for people with a wheelchair. Especially when the wheelchair is hand operated. This is the reason why there was constructed an elevator a few years ago next to the Danube Channel. It is there for accessibility of the Danube Channel area.

Mit the Wheelchair to the Danube Channel

The place where you find the elevator is at the corner of Salztorbrücke and Upper Danube Street. There you can enter the elevator and go down one floor to the river bank of the Danube Channel. For all people who do not have an electric driven wheelchair, this is the way to go down to the Danube Channel in Viennas second district.

On the north east side of the Danube Channel on the river bank of the second district you can enjoy driving around with a wheelchair. There are also some relaxing zones and there are some cafes and restaurants on this side of the Danube Channel. The north east side of the Danube Channel even has more and longer sun in the afternoon. This accessible way to the Danube Channel for wheelchairs was invented in the year 2013. It was constructed as a cooperation between the second district of Vienna and the Raiffeisen Bank. It brings you down and up about 6 meters to the river bank of the Danube Channel. The elevator is open for free use during the whole days and night.
